Review; Broken Skies by Theresa Kay

Summary; Thirty years ago, civilization collapsed. Few survived.

My Thoughts; 

Broken Skies is about a girl named Jax, a fiery red-head who lives with her twin brother Jace at a camp after an event that killed 90% of the worlds population. Girls are shipped off to breeding camps since after this event it's been hard for women to conceive, and aliens have dropped down to visit. And try to take over the world. And also steal Jax's twin, Jace.  

Jax, our main character, I really enjoyed reading from her point of view. She was sarcastic, fiery but also vulnerable and caring. I loved the relationship she had with her twin, and I loved that Theresa would add in special moments of Jax and Jace, so even though Jace wasn't physically there, you still felt that connection to their relationship. Lir, the love interest and also alien who helps Jax get into his city where they're holding her twin, I also loved. I had my moments with him, where I thought he was being a total idiot, but overall I loved him and he was sometimes just so sweet. The relationship between Lir and Jax was so entertaining and fun, I really enjoyed it! 

The plot was very fast paced, which I enjoyed! The book in general was fast paced, and so entertaining I read it in no time! I just kept wanting to know more, read more about Lir and Jax! I love alien books and this one is no different!

I would recommend this to fans of Twilight and The Lux series! It was entertaining, funny, fast paced and had a great romance! I absolutely can't wait to get my hands on the sequel, Fractured Suns!

Review: The Orphan Queen by Jodi Meadows

My Thoughts; 

I'm still not completely sure how I feel about this book. At times, I felt like I was really enjoying it and really getting into it but then other times I would feel like I'm not liking at all where the story is going. 

This is a fantasy, set in the world of the Indigo Kingdom. It felt like a fantasy world with a twist of superhero/vigilante type vibe going on. It was very interesting and very different, definitely a surprise! In the Indigo Kingdom magic is banned and illegal because it creates a wraith and is quickly destroying all the kingdoms. 

Black Knife was a very interesting character, very mysterious and I loved the vigilante part from him. Unfortunately I figured out the plot twist of who he was pretty early on. I liked Wilhelmina's character as well, although I didn't connect to her very much. I liked that she was brave and determined to do whatever she could to get her kingdom and people back. I wasn't a huge fan of many of the secondary characters; Patrick had seemed sketchy and pushy from the beginning and Melanie, Wil's best friend, also seemed sketchy and very suspicious. 

Overall, I'd say if you're a fan of fantasy and strong female characters, I think you'd enjoy this! The pacing isn't fast but it's got a very compelling plot and a mysterious superhero/vigilante! 

Review; An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

My Thoughts;

This book was pretty badass. Also, that cover? Totally gorgeous! So in love with it! There was a ton of hype surrounding this book before it had even been released, just from people who had received ARC copies so I was so stoked when I won a giveaway for an ARC copy, thank you Chapters Indigo for the giveaway!

Like I said, this book was pretty badass! It's told in a world inspired by ancient Rome called the Empire. The world is pretty brutal and harsh. Laia as a slave, she was subjected to so many harsh and cruel things, I really felt for her but I loved that it didn't break her, it only made her stronger and more determined to find her brother and get him out of wherever the hell he is. 

This book is told in dual perspectives, so we get to see the story told through both Laia and Elias! I really loved that we got to see this world from two sides, Elias as a solider to the Empire and Laia, a slave to the Empire, but both against it. I can't even say whose POV I enjoyed more because I really liked reading both! 

I absolutely loved Sabaa Tahir's writing. It was very beautiful and captivating. I wouldn't say this book was very fast paced, but the writing is just so beautiful it makes you want to read slower so you can fully immerse yourself into it and take it all in. The world she created was so fascinating and her writing just made it all the more real to me. 

One of the issues I had with this book was the complicated romance. I wasn't a huge fan of this love-square. I really don't like how many YA novels have love-triangles and the fact that this book had a love-square was slightly disappointing. I probably would have even been able to get past it if the romance hadn't been so overpowering. Plus, the kind of love-triangle in here is one of my absolute least favourites and it was the most overpowering so I really couldn't get past it and be fine with it.

Review: The Murder Complex by Lindsay Cummings

Summary; Meadow Woodson, a fifteen-year-old girl who has been trained by her father to fight, to kill, and to survive in any situation, lives with her family on a houseboat in Florida. The state is controlled by The Murder Complex, an organization that tracks the population with precision.

The plot starts to thicken when Meadow meets Zephyr James, who is—although he doesn’t know it—one of the MC’s programmed assassins. Is their meeting a coincidence? Destiny? Or part of a terrifying strategy? And will Zephyr keep Meadow from discovering the haunting truth about her family?

My Thoughts;

So, The Murder Complex is Lindsay Cummings debut novel and it's had a lot of talk surrounding it, both bad and good. I went into this only having a very very vague idea of what it was about and it was completely different from what I expected, though not in a bad way! The Murder Complex is a pretty dark read, which you can probably gather just from the title. This book is pretty bloody and gory, so be aware of that. It's a pretty dark dystopian but personally I enjoy those best!

This book is told in dual POV's, between Meadow, who's the daughter of a fisherman with two siblings to care and watch out for, and Zephyr who's a Ward, which is what they call orphans. Meadow was very tough and kickass, I liked that she was a fierce female main character! I liked that we got to see both these characters backgrounds through the dual perspectives but at the same time I feel like the POV changes and short chapters hindered me from fully connecting to the characters. I ended up connecting with Zephyr sort of towards the end, but I didn't really connect with Meadow which was one of my main issues with the book, along with the romance. I felt the romance was too rushed and happened way too fast for me to even connect with their relationship.

I really loved how action-packed this book is and how many surprises there were! Also so many plot twists and heart racing moments! There was always something going on and it kept me intrigued and kept me wanting to keep turning the page!

Sentinel was epically fantastic! What a perfect, beautiful, amazing ending to a fantastic series! I honestly couldn't have asked for a more perfect conclusion to this series. It was so beautiful and I cried so hard at the end. 

This book completely blew me away. I love how much Alex has grown through each book and how much it showed in this final one. She has gone through so much and matured so much yet she still remains positive and down-to-earth and I find her to be a greatly admirable character. I love her so much and I loved seeing her mature and overcome everything. 

In the previous books I was not a huge fan of Seth, like at all. I really didn't like him and I didn't like the decisions he made, and I wondered how he could do the things he did, but in this final book I feel like he did get some redemption. We really delve into what happened from Seth's side and how everything affected him and oh god, it broke my heart! I can't wait for The Return to come out and continue reading Seth's story! 

So much happened in this book! There were so many thing resolved, so many plot twists! It was really fast paced and something was always happening, it was never boring and I just couldn't stop reading! I had to wait until I was home to read this book because I was getting so many emotions from reading it!

Sentinel ended perfectly, in my opinion. I feel like Alex and Aiden both got the perfect ending that they deserved and I  am so happy with it! I finished this book at around 1 in the morning and literally cried for the last 60 pages, not out of sadness really, but just because I was overwhelmed with feels! This book was so amazing and it was everything that I could have asked for in a conclusion to this series. I'm so sad that this series is over, but I will definitely be re-reading it probably more than 5 times and I know that this series and its characters will live on with me for a long time. 

Rating: 5+ Stars!

Apollyon (Covenant #4) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Holy crap. This series honestly just keeps getting better and better with every book I read! This book was so amazing, I could not stop reading it! My love for this series has grown so much and it's now one of my all time favorites.

Somehow, Alex got even more awesome in this book. I seriously love Alex, she's one of my favorite characters. She's so kick-ass, strong and just awesome! She's so snarky and hilarious. I love reading her story. In this book we also get a lot more Aiden and Alex scenes, which I loved. Alex and Aiden are one of my favorite book couples, I love them together.

This book had a lot of kick-ass moments. We got to see Alex fighting for her life and for the life of all Pures and Half-Bloods. She's got the gods and pures both trying to kill her and her friends. It was amazing to see how much growth Alex has gone through and how much she's changed as a character. She's really grown and matured, but she's still snarky and kickass at the same time. 

I can't say much without spoilers, but overall this book was f'n awesome! I loved every single second of it and have loved every single second of this series! I recommend this to anyone who loves YA books with an awesome plot, kick ass character and hilarious dialogue!

My Thoughts:


This book took me by complete surprise. I didn't expect to love it even half as much as I did. I'm not a huge lover of fantasy because honestly, I've only ever read a few fantasy books, so I was a little skeptical about this book but I loved it. I enjoyed far more than I was expecting to!

I really enjoyed Katsa as a character. At first when she comes in she's kind of cold and doesn't have very many feelings because she's her uncles hitman, basically. Then she meets Po. Gosh, I love Po! He's warm, hilarious and just so adorable. I loved him so much! Him and Katsa were great together, they make an awesome team. I also enjoyed a lot of the side characters. I liked how strong and defiant Bitterblue was even though she was 10 and I loved Raffin!

I was just immediately sucked into this world and loved it so much. I read this book in one day and stayed up late to finish it. There were lots of plot twists and so many things happened, this book really was never a dull moment!

Overall, I loved Graceling so much! It really makes me want to read more fantasy and I've already picked up the sequel, Fire which doesn't follow Katsa and Po but I still can't wait to read it! I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy or is looking to start getting more into it!

Perfect Kind of Trouble by Chelsea Fine

Daren Ackwood is a bad boy with a mysterious past-He's the kind of guy who knows he can get any girl he wants. Kayla doesn't do bad boys-in any sense of the word. They have a tendency to leave scars and dust trails in their wake, and Kayla isn't running short on either. So when Daren rolls up to her father's funeral in his shiny sports car, Kayla knows she needs to keep her distance during her brief stay in this tiny God-forsaken town. She's here to take care of her father's will, nothing more. The trouble is, Daren doesn't see it that way. And he usually gets his way.









My Thoughts:

Wow, I loved this book! I absolutely adored it!

I loved the whole scavenger hunt to find the money Kayla's dad left her and Daren, it was so fun to read about and I loved how it brought Kayla and Daren together. I loved seeing how their opinion on each other in the end completely changed from the beginning of the book. 

I really liked Kayla as a character. She was very real and she had self respect which is very admirable. She stayed away from guys because she was trying to focus on getting her life together and she doesn't want a guy who only likes her for her body, she was to be viewed as a person, not just ass and tits, which made me respect her a lot. With the kind of crappy life she was handed I would have expected her to be more bitter and bitchy, but she wasn't. 

And Daren...It was so nice to see his back story and get much more of a feel for him as a character. I liked him in Best Kind of Broken because I thought he was funny, but now I'm just totally in love with the dude. He's stolen my heart and I'm glad he has. Daren is sexy, hilarious, witty but also not as tough as he makes you think. He's had a really tough life and everyone he's cared for has left him, making him think he's not worthy of anyone. He thinks all he's good at and good for is sex, which just tore my heart. I wanted Daren and Kayla to get their happy ending so bad because they deserved it so much. 

I loved reading as Kayla finds out the real reason behind why her and her dad lost contact and how all the hurt and bitterness she has pent up towards him gets replaced with the love she has for the father she knew when she younger, not the one who was absent. That was just beautiful and even made me tear up.

This book was so fantastic I stayed up until 1am to finish it. My eyes were heavy but I just could not stop reading until Kayla and Daren got their happy ending. I am so glad they did in the end because they both deserved it so much, that and more. I loved this book, the characters and how everything came together in the end. I will definitely be reading more of Chelsea Fine's books in the future!

My Thoughts:

I loved this book so much that I stayed up until 2am to finish reading it. That rarely every happens anymore because I never stay up late nowadays, but this book just got me so hooked and so in love, I couldn't put it down! 

I fell in love with the characters in this book. Cara did annoy me sometimes, but most of the time I really loved her and her loyalty to Aelyx. She just grew on me and I loved her as a heroine. She was always trying to make Aelyx comfortable and trying to help him adjust to living on Earth. Aelyx also grew on me, I didn't know how I felt about him at the beginning because he was robotic, distant and seemed kind of standoffish, but eventually he started to become less robotic and show more feelings. 

This book was a little predictable. There were some things I was able to predict right from the second page. There weren't really any surprises for me, nothing that happened was a huge surprise for me.  Aside from the predictability, I did really enjoy this book and the characters! 

Overall, I fell for this book and it's characters. I'm loving Sci-Fi at the moment and this book was perfect for me! I hope you'll read this and fall for it as much as I did!

My Thoughts:


I am a huge fan of Rachel Hawkins. I loved the Hex Hall trilogy, it was one of my favorite trilogies back in 2012 so I was really excited to read this! Rachel Hawkins writes hilarious, light but still kick-ass stories, and this one did not disappoint! 

The main character Harper Price was actually a hilarious and awesome heroine. I wasn't sure if I would like her because she's literally the exact opposite of me, personality wise, but I really enjoyed reading in her POV most of the time. She was hilarious, fun and kick-ass. I'll admit I didn't exactly connect with her very well because as a character she didn't have much depth, but I still really liked her. I also loved David Stark. He was just so adorable and dorky, but I loved it. It was a change from the brooding, jackasses in most YA books and it was very refreshing. The romance between Harper and David was great, I felt the chemistry and connection between them. I love them together and I'm definitely rooting for them to stay together forever!

This book did have a bit of a Buffy the Vampire Slayer feel to it. The fighting scenes reminded me a lot of Buffy and also the drama and romance that's added in gave it a bit of a Buffy feel, which I loved since I'm a huge Buffy fan! I like that this book had really good world building, I felt that enough things were explained well enough that I wasn't totally confused, although there were parts where I was a little lost and I do have more questions that I'm hoping will be answered in the sequel!

Overall, this was a kick-ass book with a kick-ass, hilarious heroine and I loved it! I highly recommend this to anyone who's looking for an action packed book with plenty fun and hilarious moments, pick this up!

Invisibility by Andrea Cremer & David Levithan

But things don’t go as planned, especially when Stephen’s grandfather arrives in town, taking his anger out on everyone he sees. In the end, Elizabeth and Stephen must decide how big of a sacrifice they’re willing to make for Stephen to become visible — because the answer could mean the difference between life and death. At least for Elizabeth.


My Thoughts:


I was really interested to read this because I've read Andrea Cremer's Nightshade trilogy and I really loved it, although I'd never read anything by David Levithan before so I was also interested to read this and see if I liked his writing style. While I did like the writing style at most points in the story, I wasn't a huge fan of the book itself. 

My first problem with the book was the insta-love. Stephen and Elizabeth meet each other, then the next day their madly in love. I didn't feel any connection or chemistry between these characters, I honestly didn't even feel anything. Their relationship was just bland and I couldn't connect with it. It just felt flat to me.

Another problem I had was that not everything was explained as much as I wanted it to be. We never got to find out why exactly Elizabeth was the only one to be able to see Stephen. The world building was a little lacking and it left me with a few unanswered questions. As for the end of the book, there was resolution somewhat but I wasn't exactly happy with how it ended. I would have liked it to end a different way, plus it was a pretty open ending but as far as I know this is going to stay a standalone. 


Overall, I loved the writing in Invisibility and the premise, but I wasn't a huge fan of the main characters or the romance. I was a bit disappointed with the book unfortunately, but hopefully you'll like it more than I did!

My Thoughts:

I will admit, this wasn't my favorite Jennifer L. Armentrout book, but I did still really enjoy it! I have to say, Jennifer L. Armentrout really knows how to write hot guys and great romance.

I love Jennifer Armentrout's dialogue between characters. She always writes hilarious, witty banter that I just love! Roth was definitely my favorite out of the love-triangle in this book. I didn't hate Zayne, but I didn't exactly like him either. I didn't really understand Layla's feelings for him, either. It seemed to me like he kept a lot of things from her and she also kept things from him, so I didn't see why she thought she loved him. But with Roth she was able to be her whole-self, she didn't have to hide her demon half from him like she had to around Zayne. Roth understood her more and accepted both halves of her, he didn't make her hate her other half of herself. I also love Roth's snake, Bambi!

I didn't really connect with Layla or particularly like her that much. I'm used to Jennifer L. Armentrout's characters being strong, independent, sassy, take-shit-from-nobody heroines, but Layla wasn't really like that. The Warden's would disrespect her and treat her like shit and she just took it, saying in her mind they were the only family she had but in reality they're never going to accept her for who she really is, or what she really is.

I found it a little hard to get fully immersed into this story and fully get sucked into it. It took me a while longer to get through this book than it should have for me. I was kind of frustrated and annoyed by the love-triangle, but I'm not a huge fan of love-triangles in general. I felt like Layla's feelings for both Roth and Zayne would enter into the plot at unnecessary times. Her feelings for Zayne also kind of frustrated me just because I couldn't connect with her relationship with him or understand why she thought she felt so strongly about him.

I did really love the setting of this book and the world. I love Jennifer Armentrout's fast-paced writing style and learning about the history and everything behind Warden's and demons. I have never read a book about gargoyles and demons, so this was definitely new and interesting for me, I really did love it! There were a lot of crazy plot twists in this book, and a lot of crazy things just going on in general.

Oh my god, the ending of this book... I almost cried. I teared up a little. Freakin' cliffhangers! It broke my heart.

I think this book is a must read for everyone! It was fast-paced and filled with extra hot demons and gargoyles! I really enjoyed it and can't wait for the sequel, Stone Cold Touch!

This series seriously only just gets better and better with each book I read. This one is most definitely my favorite of this series, and considering how much I loved the other books, you can imagine how good this one was.

The thing I loved the most about this book was there was a lot more Aiden! I love Aiden St.Delphi so much, my love for him just grows and grows with every book I read of him. This book was unputdownable, it was so fast-paced and action packed, there was always something happening, always something going on and I loved it! 

Alex has gone through a lot of character development and she has really come a long way since the first book, Half-Blood. She's still a super kick-ass heroine but she's matured a lot more and I find her to be a really admirable character. She's definitely one of my favorite heroins. She is such a strong character, especially with how much she's gone through and how much she has to go through every single day. 

We see a lot more of both Seth and Aiden in Deity. We get to see a softer side to Aiden and I loved finding out more about him and his backstory to how he chose to become a Sentinel. We get to see that Aiden is a more deeper and complex character than he seems to be, which of course, just made me love him even more than before. I am anxiously awaiting for him and Alex to get their happy ending, I want them both to be happy together so bad. I think they're perfect together and they both deserve their happy ending. 

Now, Seth pissed me off a lot in this book. Like, a lot. I think he's a great character, he's kick-ass and hilarious, but he was a huge douche in this book, to be honest. I understand why he was being one, and you'll see why in the book but he still frustrated me and got on my nerves a lot. I still don't think Alex and him would work well together because all they have together is desire and that's all. You do get to see more of Seth's backstory in Deity also. Even though Seth pissed me off in this book I still also want to see him get his happy ending. 

Things get seriously crazy in this book! So many things happened in this book and there were so many insane twists that I didn't see coming! Nobody is trustworthy in this book and no one is who they say are. 

Overall, Deity is my favorite of this series and it was fantastic! Things just get crazier and crazier, so much happens and there's so many twists. I couldn't put this book down, I stayed up until 2am finishing it, but it was completely worth it! If you haven't read this series yet, do it now!
