Dewey's 24 Hour Read-A-Thon Wrap Up!

This Read-A-Thon started at 3am for me, but unfortunately I fell asleep a couple hours before that and was a little late starting it! I was also a lot busier on the day of the readathon than I expected to be.

So, I only managed to read 2 books during the readathon, and only one of them was actually on my planned TBR.

The first book I finished for the readathon was Divergent by Veronica Roth

The day before the readathon, Friday, I went and saw the movie before I had even read the book (I know, it's bad don't judge me!) I have the movie cover edition and I was going to buy the box set and wait until I had that to read the series then see the movie after, but my sister really wanted to see the movie and I still haven't gotten the box set in the mail yet, so I went and saw it with her before reading this first. But, the movie was so awesome that it encourage to just read the one I have instead of waiting, so I did... and it was awesome! I seriously don't know why I put off reading the series for so long, one of the reasons was because I was spoiled for Allegient but I'm so glad I finally read this book because I loved it! I will be posting a full review soon.

The next book I managed to finish was Pure (Covenant #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

This was a perfect book to read for the readathon because it's fast paced, action packed and a pretty quick read. I didn't love this one as much as I loved the first book, Half-Blood, but I still really did enjoy it! I wish there had been a lot more Aiden in it, though. I was slightly disappointed at the lack of Aiden in this book, but I understand why he wasn't in it as much. Full review to come soon!

So those are the 2 books I managed to read during this readathon! I didn't get to the other 2 I had planned to read but that's okay! Comment below if you guys participated in this readathon and tell me what you guys read!

Teardrop by Lauren Kate

Goodreads Summary:  Never, ever cry... Seventeen-year-old Eureka won't let anyone close enough to feel her pain. After her mother was killed in a freak accident, the things she used to love hold no meaning. She wants to escape, but one thing holds her back: Ander, the boy who is everywhere she goes, whose turquoise eyes are like the ocean. And then Eureka uncovers an ancient tale of romance and heartbreak, about a girl who cried an entire continent into the sea. Suddenly her mother's death and Ander's appearance seem connected, and her life takes on dark undercurrents that don't make sense. Can everything you love be washed away?

My Thoughts:

When I was growing up, I was a huge fan of Atlantis and the story of it! I used to watch the movie Atlantis all the time and was so excited to read this story because it's based off the tale of Atlantis. I'm also a fan of Lauren Kate's Fallen series, I know a lot of people didn't quite enjoy them but I really did like that series so was excited to read this one. This book just sounded like it was going to be so beautiful but I'm sad to say it didn't meet my expectations.

At the beginning of this book I liked the main character, Eureka, and I thought as I got further into the book that I'd be able to connect with her, but somewhere along the way I just found myself getting annoyed and frustrated with her. I don't know what happened but she kept making impulsive decisions, then her decisions and the reason behind why she made them were never explained.

I'm not a huge fan of love triangles in general but the love triangle in this book was just straight annoying and frustrating. It was really unrealistic and I had to restrain myself from rolling my eyes. We didn't learn too much about Ander, he honestly wasn't even in the book very often. He'd come in randomly every few pages then disappear again. I'm not even sure how I feel about him other than he's super sweet, but we didn't learn too much about him.

Brooks, Eureka's best friend, was a total dick to her at many points in the book and she never stood up for herself which was also frustrating. He would be an asshole to her then give some half-ass stupid apology and she would instantly forgive him. Uhm, what? No, stick up for yourself! Please! I honestly couldn't really feel any chemistry between her and Ander or Brooks, the romance was rushed and came out of nowhere.

Overall, I did enjoy the first 150 pages or so, but somewhere after that the story just took a totally different turn and I started to dislike it. It was pretty slow and I found myself dragging through it. I think the plot is really interesting and had a lot of potential, but it just didn't work well for me.

My Rating: 2.5/5

Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Goodreads Summary: Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don't kill him first, that is.

My Thoughts:

The first time I read this was a little over a year ago and I instantly fell in love with it and all the characters. I was in the mood for a fun, entertaining book with lots of wit and humour, but also with a little romance and mystery so I picked this up again!

I loved this as much as I did the first time. I just loved getting back into this world Jennifer Armentrout has created. The main character, Katy, is one of my favorite characters. She's hilarious, loves blogging, reading books, and can stick up for herself! I'll admit at some points in the book she did things and I was all 'you're so going to get in trouble for that' but I still loved her character! I totally loved that she was a blogger and loved to read, it made it a lot easier to connect and relate to her.

Daemon Black, the love interest in this series, is totally swoon worthy. Definitely one of my top favorite book boyfriends. He's a gorgeous douche-bag with sweet moments and you just can't help but fall in love with him. I absolutely love the interactions between Katy and Daemon, it's hilarious. There were some points where Daemon's douche-bagness went a little too far but Katy always stood up for herself and never let him just walk all over her which I loved.

Even though this series is about aliens, The Luxen, it isn't a very sci-fi novel, I'd say it's more paranormal. I really liked the mystery part of this novel and trying to figure out what's going on with everything and just learning more about the Luxen's and everything in general.

I definitely recommend this to lovers of YA Paranormal Romance! It's a very addicting, entertaining and hilarious read that will make you want to stay up all night to finish reading it, but it will be worth it in the morning!

My Rating: 5/5 stars!
